DAY 2: IPG demonstrates latest tech for comprehensive testing and validation
IPG

At the expo, IPG Automotive is presenting its latest advancements in virtual test driving, which is a key tool for the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles.

This technology is designed for comprehensive testing and validation across the entire development process.

Ralf Sauer, vice president of marketing and communications at IPG, said, “The ADAS & AV Technology Expo is the perfect show to get in contact with our target group and shape the trends of our industry. It focuses on simulation, which has been our market segment for the last 40 years. ADAS and AV are the dominant topics of today’s automotive industry, so everyone – our customers, our partners and our company – needs to focus on it. The expo gives us the possibility to get in direct contact with our actual and potential customers and to actively shape the future trends of our industry.”

The company is displaying numerous ADAS and AV applications in combination with the CarMaker product family, to demonstrate how virtual test driving is enabled along the complete development process from SIL to HIL to VIL.

“With the CarMaker product family, we offer our customers a purpose-driven fidelity approach,” explained Dr Alexander Ahlert, branch manager at IPG in Stuttgart. This approach includes our software and hardware solutions for the entire V-cycle. A great example is our sensor models. In these models, our customers can choose from ideal, high-fidelity or raw signal sensors to find the perfect fit for each development phase of their ADAS driving functions and along the according effect chain.”

One of the primary highlights is simulation scaling, which allows for the generation of extensive test kilometers, identification of critical edge cases and training of complex AI algorithms. IPG is presenting the latest advancements in scenario generation and variation, as well as OpenSCENARIO and OpenDRIVE. Additionally, the company is demonstrating cross-domain simulation solutions that cover the entire event chain from perception and trajectory planning to actuation.

Verena Wolf, manager of strategic marketing and a member of the ASAM project group, added, “The advantages of standardization and interchangeability will also play a role in the creation of test cases for the training of AI algorithms. With our tools, we support both standards: OpenSCENARIO and OpenDRIVE. At the same time, we want to shape the standards together with the industry, which is why we are participating in both ASAM project groups to further develop the standards and align them with our tools in the best way possible.”

Another focal point at the booth is sensor technology, encompassing everything from ideal sensor model mapping to highly detailed, real-time-capable RSI sensor simulations of radar, camera, lidar and ultrasonic sensors. Discussions are also covering autonomous driving functions in commercial vehicles and V2X simulation solutions.

IPG Automotive is also presenting Virto, a virtual vehicle development tool suite designed to simplify vehicle development and provide easy access to virtual test driving. It serves as a data and workflow management platform, consisting of apps that can seamlessly connect to third-party tools and integrate into existing vehicle development processes.

Adrian Schöllhorn, product owner of Virto, explained, “It offers features to centralize virtual prototypes, vehicle software and scenarios and additionally facilitates software and testing complexity for new user groups. Via its REST APIs, all Virto features can be automated and enhanced. Its open and modular structure enables easy integration from third-party tools and data.

Attendees can see IPG’s solutions first hand at Booth 6304.
