23 Jun 2026
Room 1
Plenary opening session
The presentation explains the shift from prescriptive rules to a Safety Case–based framework for ADAS and ADS. It covers the new UN Regulation R171 on L2+ systems, including hands-off driving, system-initiated maneuvers, and human factors, while assessing current system performance and safety benefits. It then introduces a global regulatory approach for ADS (Levels 3–5) based on a multi-pillar, multilayer, and lifecycle perspective. Key elements include the Safety Management System, the Safety Case to demonstrate safety, and in-service monitoring and reporting to ensure continuous safety throughout system operation.
