SUNRISE CCAM Safety Assurance Framework

23 Jun 2026
Room 2
Standards, Regulation & System-Level Interoperability
The SUNRISE project is a €13m EU-funded initiative (2022-2025) that established a harmonized framework for safety assurance of cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM) systems before market deployment. Building on UNECE’s New Assessment/Test Method, this framework provides methods, tools and metrics related to CCAM safety assurance. This modular and scalable approach can be applied to all vehicle types and automation levels, and supports the industry as well as regulators and certifiers. The SUNRISE framework is now fully operational and is expected to accelerate the safe and large-scale deployment of highly automated vehicles across Europe.
  • What scenarios to select for safety assessment of a highly automated vehicle
  • What balance to apply between virtual and physical safety testing of a highly automated vehicle
  • How to create a convincing safety case for type approval of highly automated vehicles
  • How to take a decision on type approval of a highly automated vehicle
