Learning from the Field: Incorporating In-Service Monitoring & Reporting into scenario-based testing process

Developments in scenarios, simulation, validation and in-the-loop testing (continued)
2025 has the potential of being a pivotal year for Automated Vehicles (AV) ecosystem, with various large-scale deployments in the Americas and Europe & Asia moving to the later stages of regulation, including the secondary legislation of the UK’s Automated Vehicles Act. With more deployments, one of the key challenges (and opportunities) presented is the ability to learn from the field, i.e., real-world deployment. The UNECE Automated Driving Regulation proposes In-Service Monitoring and Reporting (ISMR) as a mechanism to enable this learning. However, incorporating this learning into the wider scenario-based testing approach still evades the industry.
In this talk, we present an approach and a live example of end-to-end process for capturing scenarios from ISMR and executing them as part of the Automated Vehicle testing process in simulation, test track or real-world testing.
